ex libris, ann (a progressive metal trilogy)

(…)

Istill find it hard to take in just how much creativity and soul this band was able to put into this trilogy. From the music itself, to the meaning behind it and the images that it carries out, everything seems to have that spark of genius that you can’t really put your finger on. And the creative process behind it is just as ingenious as the end result. They even maintained a close connection with the fans by releasing all sorts of interesting online content like guesses about the next character, teasers, clues, an amazing e-mail newsletter and some very detailed insight into the creation of the final Chapter through a series of Vlogs that can be found on their YouTube channel. I strongly recommend you watch them if you want to see all the stages they went through while creating this final chapter but also to just relax and get drunk on positive vibes (They have plenty). An emerging topic about the way the music industry is evolving is the idea that the concept of a full album might become obsolete and musicians would have to just put out song after song to be able to maintain an audience. While I don’t really believe this will happen and I think the full album will remain very much alive, it’s great to know that in case things actually go that way, Ex Libris still have everything covered. Release a full album, but do it in smaller parts and create enormous hype in between! There really is no fault that can be found with ‘Ann’. It is a monumental vision that was delivered flawlessly and since we’re approaching the end of 2019, it only makes sense that I should name it my album of the decade! If you’re still here at this point, I really appreciate you reading all this. Now do yourself a favor and listen to this masterpiece.
