Post-Nader Sadek with David Vincent – 85%

There are never too many such super-projects! Even if they surprise on average. Vltimas is something just for fans looking for a meaningful continuation of “In The Flesh”. Well, music at a similar high level and (almost) similar configuration, with the difference, however, that with David Vincent as the vocalist and without session musicians. Actually, this is only enough to show the “otherness” of Vltimas against the Sadek project! And just enough to show that this material is as cool as the mentioned one. Anyway, the effects of this trio exceeded my expectations. Especially in the context of the returning Morbid Angel and their 2011 release.
“Something Wicked Marches In” is – unlike the Angels album – a cd that does not make you sick, mostly brutal, made with sense and without any weird stuff. The trio proposed – just like with Sadek – quite an interesting resultant of patents close to Mayhem, Morbid Angel and Cryptopsy. There was both the best of these bands, but without self-plagiarism. The easiest way to put their style in the death-black regions, although I think it would be better to develop it somehow – because there is much more going on here than you might think! So, Blasphemer plays riffs like in the times of “Chimera”, Vincent growls in the style of what could already be known on “Illud Divinium Insanus” (or goes away into – very successful, by the way! – clean singing) and Flo Mounier, as usual, does not spare himself on drums – his playing is very technical and full of blasts.
Therefore, a certain dependence can be seen perfectly. Three different personas, each offering something cool and…incredibly coherent! After all, it’s not often in such projects that you can talk about ease and full naturalness. At the debut of Vltimas, these two rare elements for supergroups are present! Moving on to the songs themselves, it will probably not be a surprise if I say that each of them has a character and is well thought out. Personally, in this list I would make a special recommendation of “Monolilith”, “Diabolus Est Sanguis” and “Last One Alive Win Nothing”, although as I said, it’s best to check all the songs and see (or hear) for yourself how much is right in it – and it would be best to give the entire tracklist to get rid of the dilemma. It’s hard to find a better recommendation for the supergroup. Bearing in mind some, “interesting” intentions of others, with a similar climate of projects, it could be a muuuuch less interesting album…
