Chilean blackened death/thrash metal cult Perversor formed in 2007. Their debut full length, Cult of Destruction, was released on Nuclear War Now! in 2008. After a run of EP’s and splits with the legendary Nunslaughter and Morbosidad, Perversor dropped their sophomore full-length, Anticosmocrator in the summer of 2015 through Hells Headbangers Records. Summoning a strong resemblance to the likes of Sarcófago and Mutilator, the band brings a sound that can only be placed in the reaches of the South American underground.
Anticosmocrator sees Perversor sticking to their raucous blend of primordial blackened death metal and primal thrash metal. Featuring nine tracks and just about thirty minutes of music, this album is a nonstop assault on the senses. Tracks like “Venemous Madness” show off the band’s sharp thrash riffing alongside an endless barrage of blasting drums while the vocals are vomited out via gnarly rasped growls. The guitars verge into razor-toothed trem riffing coupled with acerbic accompanying chord progressions. Perversor’s sound is chaotic and unrelenting, allowing no escape from their pulsing blackened death/thrash metal amalgamation. The rangy and raw yet undoubtedly thick and slathering production exudes that sound that has become synonymous with the South American black metal scene; especially so with Chilean bands.
Perversor’s style of pulsing, blasting, razor sharp blackened death and thrash metal never yields. From the time the music starts, it’s a nonstop ride of inexorable anthems with no pause, which, aside from being the band’s best asset, is their greatest weakness. It’s a tiring ordeal to retain focus for the entirety of the album, as there is no pause whatsoever. Regardless, fans of fellow Chilean acts Hades Archer, Force of Darkness and Slaughtbbath should be salivating when the first notes hit. Anticosmocrator is certainly not the most original slab of South American metal, but it’s a boiling cauldron of everything that makes the primordial underground scene so amazing.
