Haggard is the highly ambitious project of mastermind Asis Nasseri and ”And Thou shall trust…the seer” stands still undoubtedly as his magnum opus in a style he created and defined on his own. I’ve noticed that the music of Haggard is often described as symphonic metal. This term is not really that accurate because, the band doesn’t use a full symphonic orchestra as the one that can be found for instance in the latest Septic Flesh albums. Haggard uses an orchestra of 16 musicians, the so called ”chamber orchestra” ,which operated mainly in the Baroque and Classical era and it was consisted by instruments such as violins, violas, cello, oboe, flute, piano (or harpsichord), classical guitar (or lute) and double bass. No walls of strings, no brass sections (this type of huge orchestra appears later in the Romantic era). I mention this, because the term symphonic while it isn’t entirely wrong, it probably gives a false impression and expectation to the listeners that are used to bands with pompous symphonic sounds. Αs for the supposed similarity with Therion, Haggard is the exact opposite of Therion. Therion is metal with orchestral elements, Haggard is orchestral music with metal elements, especially in this album.
